FollowUps is a public-interest initiative founded to protect the dignity, privacy and reputation of individuals who have been acquitted by competent courts in India, yet continue to face stigma on the internet.
Even after formal acquittal, outdated news articles, sensational headlines, blog posts, viral videos and search engine entries often continue to display derogatory or misleading information about a person.
This creates a parallel punishment—a punishment delivered by the digital world, not by the courts.
FollowUps exists to correct that injustice.
In many cases, individuals who are honourably acquitted still suffer:
Loss of employment
Rejection in professional opportunities
Social stigma and harassment
Damage to family reputation
Mental trauma due to persistent online defamation
Viral labels that never get corrected
Old media reports that never publish follow-up corrections
The justice system clears a person’s name.
But the internet often refuses to update the story.
FollowUps aims to bridge this gap.
Our mission is built on three pillars:
Assisting individuals through:
Digital defamation takedown notices
De-indexing and right-to-be-forgotten representations
Correction requests to intermediaries
Writ petitions and injunctions where required
Educating society, journalists, students, and digital platforms on responsible post-acquittal reporting.
Providing a channel for affected individuals to seek confidential, respectful and professional legal assistance.
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Ut elit tellus, luctus nec ullamcorper mattis, pulvinar dapibus leo.
We draft and send professionally structured takedown notices to news portals, blogs, social media platforms and content hosts.
We prepare formal de-indexing requests to search engines like Google to remove outdated or harmful URLs from name-based search results.
Where platforms refuse to act, we represent clients in High Courts for privacy protection, RTBF (Right to be Forgotten) and injunctions.
We monitor URLs and search results for up to six months to ensure compliance and prevent re-publication.
For individuals who genuinely cannot afford legal services, FollowUps provides limited pro bono guidance on a need-assessment basis.
.
Every assistance is grounded in truth, ethics and respect for constitutional principles.
All documents, details and case information are handled strictly and never published without written consent.
We rely only on authentic court orders, verifiable documents and lawful procedures.
Our primary commitment is to restore dignity to those falsely portrayed online even after acquittal.
